Pirate Queens
As long as pirate ships have sailed the seas, some of those pirates have been women. And, while "they offered war rather than kisses," women pirates were captivating and their costumes demonstrate it. Wearing red velour and lace, they appeared as adventurous and colorful as their male counterparts. Add a cocky pirate's hat, knee high leather boots and mix it with a handsome male pirate and you're ready to plan attacks and capture ships! Arrrrg!!! What did thirsty pirates drink? Maize, Glogg, and Ginger Rum. Here is a simple recipe for ginger rum: Take a big jug, fill halfway with fresh ginger, top it off with white rum, and put the lid on. Let it stand about two weeks, while "rolling" the jar a couple times a day. After two weeks the rum will turn golden and be ready. YUM!
