Decorating for the Perfect Halloween Party

Monday, October 31st, 2011

For those of you not going Trick-or-Treating this year, decorating for your party is probably on the top of your to do list. But how do you turn your house into a spooky graveyard, or a hopping 50s dinner?  Here are some quick tips to make sure your party is the one to beat.

If you want to create a spooky graveyard you can cover your walls with black paper or trash bags and paint trees, headstones, and other spooky pictures on the black wall covering in fluorescent black light paint.  Turn on your black lights and your walls will come alive with all your drawings, or you can just cut out headstones from cardboard or construction paper and get the same effect. Add a fog machine, some cobwebs, and some spooky music and you have a great setting for a monster bash.

If you want to create your own sock hop for your 50s themed Halloween party cut some records and a juke box out of cardboard and hang them on the walls, you can even hang some of the records from the ceiling.  If you already have a breakfast bar where you are hosting the party you can change that into a diner style bar where your guests can enjoy sodas or malts.  Don’t forget the 50s music and your poodle skirt costume. This party will be sure to hop!

Want something different?  Host a Movie Star party.  Have everyone dress as their favorite movie star or rock star and have them walk the red carpet.  Then you can have cut outs of all the major awards on the wall, like Oscars or Grammy’s, and you can have a strobe light turned on like paparazzi cameras. This is a fun and different theme that allows everyone to dress like celebrities.

No matter what theme you are going for Halloween parties are always fun and are a great way to show off your favorite Halloween costume.  What are your plans for tonight?
