Make a Homemade Firefighter’s Costume

You will create the hallmark high-visibility reflective look of a firefighter’s uniform by placing strips of yellow duct tape strategically on the jacket and pants and then running a layer of the narrower silver tape over each yellow piece. Run yellow duct tape around the pant legs at calf level and at the bottom cuff of each leg. Next put 4-inch strips of yellow tape along the back pockets of the pants.  Cut and apply a length of yellow duct tape around the bottom edge of the jacket. Run another strip around the center of the chest on the jacket. Run yellow tape around the elbow and the cuff of each coat sleeve.  Go back over each section of yellow duct tape with the narrower reflective silver tape being sure to center the silver tape and leaving the yellow tape visible.

Draw an axe on the cardboard twice and cut each piece out. Place the pieces together and wrap the handle with duct tape. Spray paint the blade of the axe bright red and let each side dry for at least an hour.

Put on the yellow-collared shirt, the reflective pants, and black boots. Put on the jacket and flare the yellow collar over the collar of the jacket. Smudge some black face paint on your face to look like soot. Put on the plastic fireman’s helmet and then the black gloves. Pick up your axe and you are ready to go.
