The 50s were a glamorous time filled with drive in movie theaters, soda fountains and Studebakers. Recreate the glamor of the 50s by throwing a party inspired by this decade. Think jukebox music, soda machines and 50s costumes. Decide to dress up in 50s costumes for Halloween if you don't have the time to throw a bash but still want to have fun with this decade.
Send out invites using three to four weeks ahead of the party to make sure everybody has time to RSVP. Don't forget to request the RSVP because you want to know how many people plan to attend. Make note of the fact that you would like your guests to arrive in 50s inspired clothes. Print out an image showing what this type of costume looks like and place it into the envelope.
You don't have to make your party an all out dinner or lunch event. Plan to throw it in the afternoon or evening and break out the ice cream bar. Root beer sodas, ice cream sundaes and milk shakes make great choices for this type of party.
Figure out which type of decorations you're going to use. Decorate with items you can pin up on the wall. Sock hop posters and images of old cars will add a 50s style flair to your bash.
Don't forget about what you're going to wear. Popular styles of the decade include poodle skirts, cloths inspired by “Grease” and dresses a housewife would wear. Get your whole family involved for this event, including your kids. They won't want to miss out on the ice cream.
